How to set up a MZ3 Automatic Timber Mitre Saw for Just in Time or JIT
- Most of the manual work needed is in getting material onto the saw infeed - the saw will take care of the rest automatically
- Raw material needs to be checked piece by piece for defects and the bow placed the right way for the member being cut
- Material needs to be handled from packs onto the saw infeed
- Place packs at a sawyer friendly, ergonomic height and use a lever bar at the operator end of the packs to allow material to be easily levered from the pack onto the saw infeed
- If you use a wide range of material you will have many raw material packs - rationalise your material use and batch jobs by material type e.g. plain or treated and by small or large sections
Generate cut files in the order required at the assembly table - usually the order required for transport, or better still, the order the finished product is needed on site - finished components should arrive on site, Just In Time as needed.
- Position the saw outfeed next to the assembly table with a small buffer zone.
- this makes the assembly table “pull through” the material with a very small buffer and no double handling between the saw and assembly.
- this also ensures the assemblers and sawyer are in close proximity for immediate feedback and assistance to each other and the sawyer can visually match his output to the assemblers.
MAKE SURE THEY ARE AS CLOSE TO EACH OTHER AS POSSIBLE.
